Can you enjoy Jeju without renting a car?
Yes, if you choose accommodation around the journeys you actually want to make. Start by comparing Jeju City for a northern base and Seogwipo for a southern one, then check each candidate hotel’s bus access. A workable week can combine public-transport days with a prearranged taxi or tour for a harder-to-reach outing. Decide that mix before paying for a remote hotel.
This is a planning guide based on official transport and tourism information. We have not personally tested the journeys described here.
Choose the hotel after checking your main outings
VisitJeju’s public-transport overview identifies Jeju Bus Terminal in the north and Seogwipo Bus Terminal in the south as major transport hubs. The same guide explains that service intervals differ between routes and that rural connections can involve longer waits. Use that overview to understand the network; check current service details separately.
Our starting suggestion is to shortlist hotels in the area where you expect to spend most of your days. Then compare the exact address, rather than treating every hotel with “Jeju” or “Seogwipo” in its name as equally convenient.
| Your priorities | Area to investigate first | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival and departure logistics, northern outings | Jeju City | The route from the airport, walking distance to the useful stop, and connections for your main day trips. |
| Several days around southern Jeju | Seogwipo | Whether the hotel is near your chosen sights or the relevant bus connection; a city name alone does not answer this. |
| A beach, resort or one particular coastal area is the holiday’s focus | The exact coastal property | Access to meals, an arrival transfer, your departure journey, and transport for any outing beyond that area. |
A southern base is a real option. Jeju International Airport’s transport page lists limousine bus 600 from the airport through Jungmun to Seogwipo, with boarding outside Gate 5. Match the listed stops to your accommodation and check the departure information for your travel date. This route does not establish that every southern hotel has a convenient connection.
Also distinguish the Seogwipo bus-terminal area from the older downtown area. VisitJeju’s Seogwipo travel guide places the intercity terminal near Jeju World Cup Stadium and describes bus and taxi connections to downtown. Check which of those locations your accommodation is actually near.
Rehearse one complete day before committing
Pick the outing you care about most and work through it from the hotel’s front door. This small exercise is more useful than counting how many attractions appear near a bus line.

- Find the actual entrance. Save the destination’s Korean name and the entrance you will use, not only a pin in the middle of a large site.
- Check the outbound journey. Include walking to the stop, waiting, transfers and the final walk from the bus.
- Check the return separately. Find the stop for the opposite direction and a departure you can comfortably reach. Do not assume the return leaves from the same place.
- Leave room for the visit. Include admission or reservation arrangements and a meal break. Remove an optional stop if the return depends on everything going perfectly.
- Name the fallback. Decide whether you will leave earlier, stay nearby or arrange a taxi if the connection does not work. A taxi appearing later is not a confirmed reservation.
Use the official Jeju Bus Information System to check current routes and timetables, alongside a journey-planning map. When a listing is unclear, ask your accommodation to help confirm the stop and direction. We do not give a single island-wide last-bus time: the relevant departure is the one serving your return stop on your travel date.
Decide where a taxi or booked day out earns its place
Our practical suggestion is to use buses for journeys with clear outward and return connections. Consider a prearranged ride when a particular outing has an awkward final connection, an early start or several destinations that are difficult to combine. Compare the whole party’s transport cost and the pickup location before choosing.
One official option to investigate is Jeju Global Taxi. Its government website describes a service for foreign visitors with bilingual drivers, east-, west- and south-side courses, and the possibility of tailoring an itinerary. That makes it worth comparing with a shared tour when you have specific stops in mind.
Before paying for any taxi charter or tour, confirm the pickup and drop-off addresses, service language, vehicle and luggage capacity, included hours, extra-time charges, admission costs and cancellation terms. A place on a proposed route does not guarantee that its admission or reservation is included. Keep the confirmed itinerary and the operator’s contact details with your booking.
For a week, compare one base with a deliberate split
A week does not require moving hotels. Make a simple list of your priority days and mark each one’s area. If most fit one base, keeping that room may save packing and luggage transfers. If several outings repeatedly pull you toward the opposite side of the island, compare a split stay against those repeated journeys.
For example, you could plan a northern block, move once, and then plan a southern block. This is an itinerary structure to evaluate, not a timed route we have tested. Include the hotel-change day in the comparison: checkout, bags, the transfer and check-in all use part of the day.
Finish with the flight home. Check that your chosen final hotel has a workable airport journey at the time you need it. If that connection is uncertain, arrange transport or reconsider the final night’s location before booking the stay.
