For a hotel near Hongik University station, start by checking the AREX All-stop Train. For a hotel near Seoul Station, compare All-stop with the reserved-seat Express. For Myeongdong, compare airport bus 6015 with the complete rail journey to your hotel. These are planning recommendations: your terminal, luggage and final walk can change the answer.
The useful comparison is airport arrivals hall to hotel entrance. A faster train can still mean an extra subway ride, a difficult station exit or a taxi after reaching Seoul.
What each option actually costs
| Option | Adult one-way fare | Journey or destination |
|---|---|---|
| AREX Express | ₩13,000 advertised selling fare | Seoul Station: 43 minutes from T1; 51 from T2. |
| AREX All-stop | To Seoul Station: ₩4,750 from T1; ₩5,350 from T2, using a transit card | Seoul Station: 59 minutes from T1; 66 from T2. Some services take 2–6 minutes longer. |
| Airport bus 6015 | ₩17,000 | Myeongdong-area stops; road time depends on traffic. |
| Taxi or booked transfer | Metered fare or the provider’s confirmed quote | Your agreed address; compare the full price and vehicle capacity. |
Rail figures come from AREX Express information, All-stop service information and the adult fare table. Times cover the train journey, not immigration, waiting or your onward connection. The Express price shown is the current advertised selling fare; recheck your ticket price before payment. Bus fare and stops are from the 6015 operator’s route page.
Staying in Hongdae: check All-stop first
The All-stop Train serves Hongik University station; the Express does not. Adult transit-card fares to Hongik University are ₩4,650 from T1 or ₩5,250 from T2. See the official route and station fare table. “Hongik University,” “Hongik Univ.” and “Hongdae” can all appear in your planning, so check the station against the hotel’s actual map pin.
For an accommodation close to that station, buying an Express ticket to Seoul Station would add an unnecessary connection. For a guesthouse farther into the neighborhood, compare the walk with your luggage. Look at the final street and entrance, not just the distance to a station label.
Staying in Myeongdong: compare the bus stop with the rail connection
Route 6015 lists stops by Myeongdong station’s L7 and Sejong hotels, as well as the Lotte Hotel/IBIS area. At T2, its published boarding point is B1, platform 28, and a ticket must be bought before boarding. Confirm the correct direction and terminal on the 6015 route page.
A hotel beside one of those stops can make the bus attractive with large bags. A hotel farther away may remove that advantage. The airport rail journey ends at Seoul Station, so price and map the remaining journey to Myeongdong before calling rail the cheaper or quicker choice.
If road traffic worries you, choose rail for the airport-to-Seoul section and treat the final connection as a separate decision. If avoiding a transfer matters more, first check whether the bus stops close enough to your entrance to make that trade worthwhile.
Compare your party’s total, not one ticket
Planning example: two adults arriving at T1 would pay ₩9,500 for All-stop to Seoul Station using transit cards, ₩26,000 for Express, or ₩34,000 for 6015. These calculations use the fares above and exclude buying a transit card or any last-mile ride. The services reach different stops, so the totals are not equivalent door-to-door quotes.
For a group, request a taxi or transfer quote covering your exact address and luggage. Ask whether tolls, parking, waiting after a flight delay and a larger vehicle are included. Do not assume four passengers plus four large suitcases fit a standard car.
Use the airport’s designated taxi stand. Seoul regular taxis have time-dependent night surcharges, so a daytime estimate may not suit a late arrival. The airport’s taxi guide explains pickup areas and fare conditions; its base fare is not the total cost to your hotel.
Check these before buying
- Confirm T1 or T2 for your flight, then use that terminal’s timetable and pickup location.
- Save the hotel’s Korean address and entrance pin. Check the walk from your proposed final stop.
- Compare the total for every traveler, including the last connection and luggage requirements.
- For an All-stop single-use ticket, budget the additional ₩100 adult fare and ₩500 refundable deposit shown in the official fare rules.
- If arriving late, use the late-arrival guide before relying on rail or a daytime bus.
For transport after the airport, continue with choosing a Seoul transit card or pass.
